Day 18 Social Media Challenge from #teamequissimo

I love this Family History Gem = My Great Grandfather G Clancy (I am also G Clancy) was third on Shady Girl at 33/1 in the 1911 Grand National

But did you know = The race was won by the 20/1 Glenside, a broken winded one eyed horse with a twenty length victory.

Shady Girl overjumped and fell in this race but in 1911 you were allowed to remount after a fall and complete the race.

The 1911 Grand National was the 73rd official race

The only moving images of the race turned up in a London auction in 2007 and first shown to the public in a BBC documentary The Big Flutter in 2011: The Grand National on Film

This picture was featured in the book Training Young Horses To Jump by Geoffrey Brooke
